Playmobil - Tower

Sometimes, the best scenery for a miniature diorama is already waiting for us outdoors.

For this Little Carpet Wars project, I took a classic Playmobil medieval castle tower and placed it on a natural rocky outcrop, creating the illusion of a lonely fortress standing high above the surrounding landscape.

The tower features an original purple banner decorated with a yellow wyvern, a distinctive heraldic emblem associated with the classic Playmobil Castle set 3665. And if you look closely, you might even spot a sentinel guarding the tower!

A Medieval Playmobil Tower on a Rocky Hill

I have always enjoyed photographing miniature figures and buildings in natural environments.

Real rocks, grass and sunlight can transform the appearance of a toy, making it seem much larger than its actual dimensions.

In this photograph, I positioned the Playmobil tower on top of a rugged rock formation. The uneven surface and surrounding dry grass create the impression of a remote medieval stronghold.

By photographing the scene from a low angle, I made the tower appear to rise dramatically against the clear blue sky.

Using Real Rocks for Miniature Photography

Rather than constructing an artificial mountain or a miniature landscape, I used the natural shape and texture of the rock itself.

The stones around the base of the tower help blend the Playmobil structure into its surroundings.

The dry grass suggests a windswept hillside, while the blue sky provides a simple, realistic background.

The result is a scene that could represent a lonely watchtower guarding a mountain pass or the border of a medieval kingdom.

The Original Playmobil 3665 Wyvern Banner

One of the most distinctive details of this tower is its purple banner decorated with a yellow wyvern.

Unlike many of the custom flags featured on Little Carpet Wars, this banner is an original Playmobil accessory from the classic Castle range of the 1990s.

The same heraldic design appears on the original packaging of Playmobil set 3665, both on the tower banner and on a knight's shield.

A wyvern is a dragon-like creature traditionally depicted with two legs, wings and a long tail.

Wyverns are popular heraldic creatures in medieval-inspired fantasy settings, where they make particularly striking emblems for banners and shields.

I particularly like these older Playmobil heraldic designs. Their strong colours and recognisable symbols give each castle and knightly faction a distinct identity.

In this photograph, the purple and yellow banner stands out beautifully against the grey stonework and bright blue sky.

A Sentinel on Watch

There is a small detail hidden inside the tower.

Look carefully at the arched windows beneath the wyvern banner.

A Playmobil sentinel is standing guard inside the tower, watching over the surrounding landscape.

The figure is barely visible in the wider photographs, but the close-up reveals the little guard at his post.

I like imagining him keeping watch over a distant frontier, ready to warn the castle of approaching enemies.

Classic Playmobil Castle Photography

What I enjoy most about this kind of photography is how a simple toy can become part of a much larger imaginary world.

The tower itself remains recognisably Playmobil, complete with its original heraldic banner.

But by combining it with real rocks, natural grass and a carefully chosen camera angle, the scene suggests an imposing medieval fortress.

Sometimes, all you need to create a miniature fantasy landscape is a vintage Playmobil castle, a good rock and a clear blue sky.

My Custom Scenario for Age of Empires 2 DE

I recently got reacquainted with the Renaissance Wars through this book, which I recommend.

Did you know that the word Free Lance originated in Italy during the period of the captains of fortune?

In Italy there were soldiers without captains a bit like the Japanese ronin.
These soldiers were called Lanze Spezzate (Broken Lances) or Free Lance.

The map that I created is multiplayer 1vs1 and is available on the site in the Scenarios section.
